Firenze Tower is responsible for the delivery of ATC clearances, all aprons and taxiways, runway 05 / 23 and all traffic within the ATZ and CTR from GND to 2500 ft. The CTR is protected by Firenze CTA to the west and south from 2500ft to FL105, to the north and east from 4500ft to FL105.
The tower controller shall check the following parameters in the pilots’ flight plans:
ALV: The initial climb clearance in LIRQ is 6000 ft for all SIDs
PDC: PDC is not available in LIRQ
SIDs and ALV will be correctly assigned by vSID
The main landing runway is RWY 05
Landing on runway 23 is possible only:
The takeoff runway can be either 05 or 23, RWY 05 shall be used only upon pilots request, during daytime VMC, visibility > 5 km and ceiling > 3000 ft, while RWY 23 is the standard one to be assigned. The use of runway 23 for takeoffs is mandatory when RVR < 550 m.
Opposite runway operations are standard in LIRQ
| Stand | Type | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 101-108 | Pushback | Airline |
| 202-304 | Startup | GA / Business |
Aircraft from stands 10x shall follow taxiway A to holding point H or M or alternatively holding point F.
Holding point F must not be used during approach operations for runway 05
Aircraft from stands 20x and 30x shall taxi to holding poing G.
Aircraft departing runway 23 are expected to backtrack, in low traffic situations they can be authorized to backtrack and line-up. If arrivals need to be inserted, aircraft can backtrack, vacate via K and hold at P
Firenze Tower can handle the taxi-in of aircraft with two methods:
After vacating aircraft parking at stands 10x shall follow taxiway A to the assigned stand
Handoff: Departures shall be handed off to the appropriate sector as soon as practicable.
Spacing: Departures shall be separated by 5 NM, wake turbulence separation, or 2 minutes, whichever is greater.
HR: All departures are held for release by Roma Radar.
The minimum radar separation between arrivals is 5 NM.
In case of missed approach Tower shall inform Approach immediately and hand over the misap tag.
After a go-around the next departure is always held for release unless otherwise coordinated with the sector above.
The VRPs relevant to the tower position are:
| NAME | CODE |
|---|---|
| Casello A11 | RQNW3 |
| Fiesole | RQE2 |
| Galciana | RQNW2 |
| Certosa | RQS3 |

VFR flights departing LIRQ shall be instructed to turn to the assigned exit VRP after departure, these can be:
Aircraft leaving via NW2 and S2 below 2500ft shall contact Roma Information, above 2500 ft they shall contact Roma Radar. Aircraft leaving via S3 and E2 below 4500ft shall contact Roma Information, above 4500ft shall contact Roma Radar.
Arriving aircraft will be handed over by Roma Information / Radar over E1 or over NW2 / S2 by Radar. From here they shall be instructed to orbit or join the traffic pattern.
NW3 VRP must be used with caution as it interferes with the visual climb out procedure of runway 05
Landing and takeoff of helicopters is only allowed from the runway.
