Bologna Tower is responsible for all the traffic within Bologna ATZ (SFC-2000 ft)
TWR can be responsible for Bologna CTR Zone 1 upon coordination and approval from Bologna Radar.
The preferred traffic pattern for both runway 12 and 30 is to the north, however a southern pattern is available at ATC discretion. Assign this tactically in case of multiple aircraft in the circuit.
As per the noise abatement table, after 23:00 LT the standard configuration requires the use of opposite runways. Ensure proper spacing between departures from runway 30 and arrivals on rwy 12, coordinating as necessary with the controller above.
Handoffs to the next controller shall be made as soon as practicable.
Separation between two consecutive departing ACFT is 5NM or WTC separation, whichever is greater.
A traffic lined up on the runway must commence takeoff roll before the arriving traffic passes the 7NM gate from threshold.
Arriving traffic will be separated by Bologna/Padova Radar as specified below.
RWY IN USE | PROCEDURE | REQUIRED SPACING |
---|---|---|
12 | ALL | 10 NM |
30 | ALL | 10 NM |
Spacing may be reduced after coordination, according to the traffic volume.
In case of a go around, Tower shall notify Radar immediately and hand over the MISAP tag.
After a go-around the next departure is always held for release unless otherwise coordinated with the sector above
The following VRPs are relevant to the Tower position:
NAME | CODE |
---|---|
Ansa Reno | PEN3 |
Borgonuovo | PES3 |
Castel Maggiore | PEE3 |
Altedo | PEE1 |
Cento | PEN1 |
Minerbio | PEE2 |
San Pietro in Casale | PEN2 |
Spilamberto | PESW2 |
VFR flights departing LIPE shall be instructed to turn to the assigned ATZ exit VRP after departure, usually Ansa Reno or Borgonuovo
Castel Maggiore (PEE3) can be assigned but with caution, as it interferes with SIDs from runway 12.
Aircraft intending to fly from Bologna to Ozzano (LIKO) may be instructed to proceed direct to LIKO (after proper coordination with the controller above) depending on the traffic volume. The controller shall ask the aircraft to report LIKO in sight and then hand them over to Padova Information.
After coordination, aircraft leaving northbound below 2000 ft who intend to continue in G airspace may be handed over directly to Padova Information instead of Bologna Radar, despite still technically being in controlled airspace.
Arriving VFR traffic shall enter the ATZ via one of the entry points specified above at maximum 2000 ft and, if traffic permits, be asked to join directly a left/right base.
NVFR aircraft shall use the circuit to the north of the airport.
ATZ entry/exit points for NVFR are reported below:
DIRECTION | VRP |
---|---|
WEST | Spilamberto |
NORTH | Cento |
NORTH-EAST | San Pietro in Casale |
EAST | Minerbio / Castel Maggiore |
Polizia di Stato, Vigili del Fuoco and HEMS helicopters may take-off directly from the helipads (available on the SMR via the menu "FUNCTIONS -> MAPS -> LIPE SMR -> HELIPADS").
A helicopter must NOT be cleared for take-off from the helipad when an aircraft is rolling on the main runway.
HEMS helicopters may leave the ATZ via the OSCAR VRP, ensure there is suffficient spacing with departing aircraft before authorizing a helicopter to proceed to "Oscar"
