Genova Tower is responsible for delivery of ATC clearances, all aprons and taxiways, RWY 10 / 28 and of Genova ATZ from GND to 2000ft. Its service is provided without the use of radar. The ATZ is protected by the Genova CTR east, south and west of the airport. North of the airport and west of Cogoleto the airspace is G below 2000 ft.
The tower controller shall assign the correct SID using DelHel and check the following parameters in the pilots' flight plans:
ALV: The initial climb clearance in LIMJ is 5000 ft for all SIDs
PDC: PDC is not available in LIMJ
Runway 28 is preferential for takeoff and landing
Runway 10 can be requested, but aircraft shall be subject to delays in favor of those landing on runway 28.
Opposite runway operations (DEP 10, ARR 28) are possible
Due to the location of the airport windshear is common, advise pilots as necessary when windshear is reported in the METAR
Traffic circuits are only allowed south of the runway
Conventional SIDs are to be considered standard in LIMJ
The controllers shall use GroundRadar Plugin which will direct most aircraft to the appropriate stand. In case a stand is blocked, reassignment is possible via GRP.
Stand | Type | Use |
---|---|---|
201-304 | Pushback | Airline |
401-404 | Pushback | Airline |
308-313 | Startup | GA / Business |
101-112 | Pushback | Cargo |
Aircraft taxiing to runway 28 unable for intersection departure shall taxi to holding point G and backtrack.
Aircraft taxiing to runway 10 shall stop at holding point B, which is further back compared to the runway. Not stopping at the correct holding position will result in a runway incursion and aircraft on IFR approach to runway 28 or 10 shall be instructed to go-around.
Handoff: Departures shall be handed off to the appropriate sector as soon as practicable.
Spacing: Departures shall be separated by 5 NM, wake turbulence separation, or 2 minutes, whichever is greater.
HR: All departures from runway 10 when runway 28 is use are held for release by Genova Radar
The minimum radar separation is 5 NM.
Spacing between arrivals shall be equal or greater than 10 NM.
In case of missed approach Tower shall inform Approach immediately and hand over the misap tag.
After a go-around the next departure is always held for release unless otherwise coordinated with the sector above.

VFR flights departing LIMJ shall be instructed to turn to the assigned exit VRP after departure, these can be:
Aircraft leaving via NE1 or W1 below 2000 ft shall be instructed to contact Milano Information, aircraft leaving via NW1 or any other VRP above 2000 ft shall contact Genova Radar.
Arriving aircraft will be handed over before NW1, NE1, E1 and W1 by Genova Radar or Milano Information.
Aircraft shall be instructed to orbit over these VRPs at an appropriate altitude in case of heavy traffic in the ATZ. Be mindful of the high terrain north of the airport when assigning an altitude to a VFR aircraft.
N1 shall be used as a holding VRP for aircraft intending to join the traffic pattern
VFR overflights are common in the direction NE to W and vice-versa, aircraft flying the leg NE1 - W1 at low altitude shall be instructed to report over N1 or overhead the field and shall be authorized for the route only if proper separation with arriving IFR aircraft can be maintained. Due to the lack of radar of the Tower, the controller shall ask for frequent position reports to prevent any interference with other traffic in the ATZ.
