Malpensa Ground (west) is responsible for west apron and TWY H up to IHP H1.
The controllers shall use GroundRadar Plugin which will direct most aircraft to the appropriate stand. In case a stand is blocked, reassignment is possible via GRP.
Stand | ACFT Type | Airline |
---|---|---|
351-394 | L-M-H | Passenger Carriers |
401-413, 501-507 | M-H | Passenger non-Schengen |
508-513, 601-625, 701-710 | M-H | Passenger Carriers |
451-456, 551,559, 651-659, 751-756 | L-M | Passenger Carriers, GA ACFT and Bizjets |
701-793, 851-863, 956-970 | M-H | Cargo |
301-330 | L-M | GA ACFT and Bizjets |
While Malpensa does not have a mandatory taxi routing, traffic shall follow a very specific flow:
In case RWY 35L is in use, aircraft should follow taxiway Y and K southbound:
Y shall be used in low traffic situations as it can cause delay for aircraft looking to push back onto it, the standard taxi routing would be Y, GY to holding point GW or Y, Z to holding point WB.
K is the preferred taxiway for outbound aircraft, who shall taxi via the closest eastbound taxiway (P, R, S, T and U) and then via K, W1 to holding point GW or via K, Z to holding point WB.
Ground West shall aim at always assigning HP GW for RWY 35L, other HP can be assigned after coordination with the tower
In case RWY 35R is in use, there are two possible routings:
Ground west cannot assign holding point CA as it is outside its AoR, aircraft shall always be sent to H1 and handed over to Tower East as soon as possible
The ground controller cannot authorize runway crossings, aircraft shall be handed over to LIMC_TWR before turning onto U or GY or as soon as possible to avoid build-ups at the holding point.
Runway crossings are always subject to the Tower’s discretion, the ground controller will be advised by the Tower if they are available.
Tower will instruct arriving aircraft who have just vacated / crossed RWY 35L to taxi via W or to hold short of K and hand them over to Ground, the Ground controller will then direct them to their assigned stand via the shortest route possible.
The use of intermediate holding positions and hold shorts is fundemental to prevent collisions on the ground and ensuring an orderly flow of traffic.
In case of cargo aircraft parking at stands 851-863, Ground may receive them from Tower holding short of H5.
The ground controller shall use caution when handling the taxi of code F aircraft (B748 and A388) as they are only allowed on certain taxiways, additionally code F aircraft are only allowed to taxi to CAT 2/3 holding points, refer to image below:
Malpensa Ground (north) is responsible for the north apron and its taxiways, taxiway C is controlled by ground only north of C5.
In case this position is offline its duties are taken over by Ground West.
Stand | ACFT Type | Stand type | Airline |
---|---|---|---|
102-117 | M | Pushback | EJU, EZY, EZS |
201-224 | M | Startup | EJU, EZY, EZS + Cargo (secondary) and GA (secondary) |
All departing aircraft shall be directed via taxiway C to hold short of C5 where they will be handed over to Tower East.
It is not possible for the ground controller to clear aircraft beyond C5 as this is outside the controller’s AoR.
Stands from 201 to 224 are taxi-out positions, after startup aircraft can taxi directly to C5
Arriving aircraft will be handed over to Ground by Tower at the following positions, depending on where they vacated the runway: BE, B1, C5, A1, AB, AA. From these positions the Ground controller shall direct them to the assigned stand via the shortest route available, keeping in mind that outbound aircraft have right of way on inbounds and that aircraft parking at stands 201-224 must be facing C.
In case an aircraft parking at the west terminal has vacated at AA / AB, Ground may delegate taxiway A to Tower east who will then instruct the aircraft to continue via A and then E.
Same code F restrictions apply as Ground West
Low visibility procedures in Malpensa are activated whenever:
During LVPs the preferred runways are 35R for takeoffs and 35L for arrivals.
During LVP the ground controller shall instruct aircraft to taxi the the appropriate CAT II / III holding points, which can be displayed on the SMR along side low visibility taxi routings by activating the LVP function on the GRP toolbar.
Phreaseology is as follow:
Wizzair Malta 5149, Malpensa Ground, taxi to CAT III holding point WB, RWY 35L via Y and GY
GW is already a CAT III holding position, so the CAT III holding point phreaseology may be omitted.
Pilots must be made aware of the activation of LVPs in the ATIS and via voice via an all-station broadcast.
Mlapensa utilizes only remote de-icing stations, these are for the west apron:
For the north apron:
